Apple in Talks With FTC About Ads: The Cupertino, Calif.-based computer maker is being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission about advertisements it ran in 1993 and ’94 for its Performa home personal computers. The FTC is looking into ad claims that consumers who bought the computers would easily be able to upgrade those machines when the new and faster PowerPC chip became available. “We are in discussions with the FTC on a group of ads,” Apple spokesman Christopher Escher said. “We anticipate a resolution soon.” Escher declined to say when the agency first contacted Apple, the world’s third-biggest PC maker, about the probe.
