Fuentes’ Nazi Remark Absurd

Share

In the Oct. 15 article, “Prominent GOP Members Back Clinton in O.C.” Orange County GOP Chairman Thomas Fuentes equated his fellow Republicans’ support of President Clinton with French politicians who collaborated with the Nazis during World War II. To equate honest dissent in the Republican ranks with the Vichy sellout to the Nazis is not only a grossly overblown analogy, but a reprehensible one. To suggest that the Democratic Party is on a par with the Nazi Party betrays Fuentes’ rabid extremism, the same extremism that will cost the Republicans California for the second time in a row.

* Fuentes was absolutely right in disparaging Orange County Republicans for Clinton when he said they were endorsing Clinton for their personal gain.

It is true that I spoke briefly with Clinton this summer in Monrovia. Although not autographed, I have a beautiful picture.

I am a lawyer and have thought long and hard and agonized whether I will take Clinton’s next appointment to the Supreme Court or the cabinet office of attorney general.

Honor, tradition, duty, and most of all pride and love of country cause me to choose another political reward. When offered the appointment, I shall accept.

As with all my brothers in arms who ever served in its glorious ranks, all my life I have wanted to be commandant of the Marine Corps.

Re “Clinton’s Visit to Put Damper on Civic Center,” Oct. 16:

Since when does a county supervisor allow himself the privilege of voicing his outrage over the visit of a national dignitary, even though it’s only the President of the United States? Jim Silva might try to get his bureaucratic head to fit his hat size.
