Reiner, Philibosian Endorse Lynch for District Attorney

Two former district attorneys, Ira Reiner and Robert Philibosian, on Tuesday endorsed challenger John Lynch over incumbent Gil Garcetti for the job.
Seeking to capitalize on the failed prosecution of the O.J. Simpson case, Reiner and Philibosian announced their endorsements in front of the Santa Monica courthouse--where the civil wrongful death suit against Simpson is being tried.
Philibosian charged that Garcetti’s tenure has produced a “crisis of confidence” in the office. Reiner said of Lynch: “He has excellent judgment under pressure and God knows there’s precious little of that in the D.A.’s office.”
Garcetti’s campaign manager, Matt Middlebrook, dismissed the endorsements as “sour grapes,” noting that Garcetti had helped Reiner defeat Philibosian in 1984 and then challenged and defeated Reiner in 1992.
