Familiar Faces: As promised, the Dole/Kemp campaign has been devoting a lot of attention to California, and the two candidates recently have become familiar faces in the San Fernando Valley. . . . The trend continues Thursday when Jack Kemp speaks at Woodbury College in Burbank, 17500 Glenoaks Blvd. . . . The speech starts at 2:05 p.m., but spectators should arrive two hours early.

Big Boost: Democrats will be out on the stump as well. . . . Sen. Dianne Feinstein is coming to Clinton/Gore headquarters in Sherman Oaks, 14425 Ventura Blvd., at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to provide a boost for local Democratic candidates. After a rally, party regulars will walk precincts.

Campaign--Democratic Party officials said Wednesday they had provided some incorrect details about a Saturday event in Sherman Oaks. The event was mentioned in Wednesday’s Valley Newswatch column. Sen. Dianne Feinstein will not speak at the event, but former Clinton campaign official James Carville and presidential advisor George Stephanopoulos will attend. The rally begins at 12:30 p.m. at Clinton/Gore headquarters, 14452 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks.

Valor Rewarded: Glendale Firefighter Scott French, badly burned in last week’s wildfires, was among those honored Tuesday by Gov. Pete Wilson with the Governor’s Fire Service Award. French, above, is recovering at the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks. . . . Firefighter William Jensen, burned over 70% of his body when he was trapped in a wall of flame, underwent four hours of surgery Tuesday (B1).

Fight Nights: Politicians aren’t the only ones fighting in the Valley. Pro boxing will now be featured at two Valley venues. . . . The Reseda Country Club, where budding pros Michael Nunn and Rafael Ruelas once boxed, will host its first fight in three years on Nov. 21. In January, boxing returns to the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills (C8).
