Ruth Quinn Armstrong de Prida; Educator, Activist for Retirees
Ruth Quinn Armstrong de Prida, 87, educator and activist for the California Retired Teachers Assn. Brought up in Los Angeles and educated at UCLA and USC, she taught in Los Angeles schools and for 23 years served as principal at Rosewood Avenue School and then 3rd Street School. After her retirement, she began working for better treatment of retirees. For 15 years, she headed the legislation committee of the California Retired Teachers Assn. The veteran teacher was the first retiree representative to serve on the board of the State Teachers Retirement System. De Prida was also an officer of the Los Angeles County and California Mental Health Assns. and was appointed to the Governor’s Mental Health Commission. On Saturday in Los Angeles.
