Ciccarelli’s Goals Spark Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning rallied to defeat the Rangers, 5-3, at New York on Monday night as Dino Ciccarelli passed Guy Lafleur in the all-time scoring ranks.

Ciccarelli scored two goals to move into 10th place on the NHL career list with 561.

Alexander Selivanov scored the game-winner with 1:09 left after the Lightning, 0-4-1 in its last five games, had fallen behind, 3-1.

“It’s a personal accomplishment and it feels pretty good,” Ciccarelli said. “I never expected this when I started to play the game.”

The Rangers’ Wayne Gretzky extended his league-high scoring streak to 15 games with an assist.

New York Islanders 4, Philadelphia 3--Ziggy Palffy continued his torrid pace with a pair of goals at Philadelphia, including the game-winner in the third period.

Palffy has six goals and three assists in his last three games.

Detroit 5, Hartford 1--Doug Brown had two goals and two assists at Detroit for the Red Wings, who are 6-1-2 in their last nine games.

The Whalers have gone 1-3-2 after a 4-1 start.

Detroit goalie Chris Osgood made 27 saves to stay unbeaten (5-0-1) in his last six starts.
