Bedridden Man Saved From Apartment Fire
Firefighters rescued a bedridden 84-year-old man from his burning apartment in Leisure World on Wednesday morning after an unattended stove set the fire, authorities said.
The victim dialed 911 from his bed just before 11 a.m. and complained that his apartment in the 200 block of Avenida Majorca was filled with smoke, according to Kymbra Fleming of the Orange County Fire Authority.
Firefighters rescued the man from the apartment, which sustained about $1,000 in damage, Fleming said.
The blaze was caused by cooking food left by someone else on a hot stove, Fleming said. Cooking fires are the primary cause of home fires in Orange County, Fleming added.
The man was taken to Saddleback Community Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
No other injuries were reported, Fleming said.
