Led by running backs Trevell Jackson and Sergio Garcia, Western rallied for a 28-19 Orange League victory over Brea Olinda Friday night.

Jackson and Garcia formed an overpowering tandem for Western (4-5 and 2-2 in league play) in the second half. Jackson led Western with 122 yards in 10 carries, repeatedly getting his team into good field position. Garcia then finished things off.

Garcia rushed for only 17 yards in 10 carries. However, after Jackson got Western near the goal line, Garcia scored two short-yardage touchdowns to help Western win its second consecutive league game. Garcia had touchdown runs of three and four yards.

Western’s backfield helped it overcome a 13-0 halftime deficit.

“All I know is that we’re not a good first-half team,” said Western Coach Toby Howell. “They’re making me too old too fast at times.”

After a scoreless first quarter, Brea Olinda (4-5, 2-2) took a 6-0 lead on field goals of 23 and 29 yards by Scott Davis. Running back Jesse Vargas, who gained 174 yards in 14 carries, then scored on an 80-yard run in the second quarter to help Brea Olinda take its 13-0 halftime lead.
