A Sun Valley man was shot to death on a Pacoima street early Sunday when his killer calmly approached him and gunned him down, police said.

“He walked up and said something to him in English and then shot him,” said Det. Frank Bishop of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division.

Victor Perez, 32, was shot once in the chest and taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he died a short time later. Bishop said Perez was standing in the 12600 block of Pierce Street just before 3 a.m., when two men walked up and started talking to him.

Apparently, Bishop said, the suspect knew the victim and once they exchanged words, he opened fire and shot at him numerous times. Perez was hit only once before the two men fled on foot.

Bishop said Perez was not believed to be a gang member.

Bishop said witnesses to the shooting were unable to identify the gunman or his companion.
