After conflict that led to its suspension, the Parent Teacher Student Assn. has returned to Porter Middle School after a monthlong series of mediation talks with the school’s principal, PTSA officials and district administrators.

Ongoing conflicts between Porter Principal Sherry Breskin and school PTSA President Chris Taylor led to the group’s suspension from the Granada Hills campus in August. PTSA members said the problems stemmed from Breskin’s attempts to dictate PTSA actions.

Breskin would not elaborate on her conflicts with the group.

Over a period of several weeks last month, Los Angeles school district administrator Gene McCallum met with Breskin, Taylor and PTSA 31st District President Cathy Flory to resolve the impasse. State PTSA officials were also involved in the discussions. The group returned to the campus in late October.

“I think things are fine,” Breskin said. “They’ve helped us supervise some of our dances and things are back to normal.”

PTSA members will resume the group’s arts program, called Reflections.
