Voter Cynicism

I find it amusing that politicians from both parties bemoan the fact that the electorate appears to be cynical, distrustful and suspicious of politicians in general, and their government in particular. Does it not occur to them that they spend millions of dollars every two years telling us just how dishonest, corrupt, unethical and immoral they all are? It should not surprise them, when after years of hearing this, we have become true believers.

Politicians are the only professionals around that commit suicide every two years. If they want to be respected, they have to start by respecting themselves, their opponents and the citizens who are asked to vote for them. If we have become cynical, and disinterested, fundamental responsibility must fall on the shoulders of politicians.
