Bone Marrow Drive Planned for Boy

Share

The local chapter of a national donor registry is hosting a bone marrow drive Saturday to seek potential matches for a 9-year-old boy in need of a life-saving transplant.

Organizers declined to identify the youth. Volunteers from Children for Tomorrow said that without a match the boy is expected to die.

People can donate samples at the Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 102 Camino Espendido, Camarillo, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The samples will be added to a national register that tracks blood types for patients nationwide.

Children for Tomorrow officials said potential donors must be at least 18, and their blood samples would stay on the registry until their 61st birthday.

There are nearly 120 Ventura County residents searching for matching donors. A second drive is scheduled in Ventura during the Dec. 1 street fair.
