City Sues to Delay Cargo Artery Project
The city of Lynwood has filed a lawsuit aimed at delaying construction of the planned $1.9-billion Alameda Corridor cargo artery, charging that the cities backing the project need to conduct a new environmental impact study.
Lynwood had joined several other southeast Los Angeles cities to take legal action against the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in a dispute over the structure of the project’s governing board.
But Lynwood abruptly abandoned the group amid settlement talks earlier this year, and decided to pursue a separate lawsuit, which it filed Wednesday. The lawsuit brought by the other cities was thrown out by an appeals panel.
Lynwood charges that project design and traffic projections have changed so much since the study was conducted in 1993 that it is no longer valid.
