Jazzman to Play at Cancer Society Benefit

Jazz recording artist Gerald Albright will perform Monday at Favoritz restaurant’s Just Sweet Enough Holiday Dessert Tasting Party to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Just Sweet Enough, a line of gourmet dessert and gift baskets featured at the restaurant, is owned by Albright and his wife, Glynis. The low-sugar, low-fat desserts are named after Albright’s songs, including “Bermuda Nights” and “Softly Sunrise.”

Glynis Albright, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer several years ago, created the Just Sweet Enough line as an alternative for people who are placed on sugar- and fat-free diets after an illness.

“After meeting other people who were ill because of cancer or another disease, I noticed that everybody, if they are put on a strict diet by their doctors, cheats,” she said. “I wanted to come up with foods that they could eat, while cutting back on sugar and fat.”

Joining Albright on stage from 6:30 to 9 p.m. will be several musicians who regularly play jazz and blues at the club.

Last year the party was free to celebrate the creation of Just Sweet Enough, but this year participants will pay $20 admission to benefit the cancer society.

Favoritz is located in the Promenade Mall, 6100 Topanga Canyon Blvd. For more information, call (818) 377-2744.
