Seed Money--Funds for planting trees in neighborhoods, schools and parks are available through the Tree Society of Orange County’s 1997 grants program. The grants are for the purchase of trees and planting materials for use on public property. Eligible groups include garden clubs, PTAs, ecology clubs, Girl and Boy Scout troops and church-affiliated groups. During the 1996 period, the grants ranged from $350 to $1,000, and 289 trees were planted throughout Orange County. Deadline for applications is Jan. 15. Grand Canyons--Mature chaparral, woodland and coastal sage scrub can be seen in abundance during a walk Saturday in Aliso and Wood Canyons planned by the Orange County chapter of the California Native Plant Society. Meet at the Wood Canyon entrance at 9 a.m. The hike to the Visitors’ Center is about 1 1/2 miles on flat terrain. The hike from there will be three to five miles, with some hill climbing. Bring water and a snack. Rain within two days may cancel the walk. Parking in the Awma Road lot is $2. (714) 540-4519.

Fall Fete--Youngsters 6 to 12 years old can participate in an old-fashioned “Autumn Harvest Festival” 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Oak Canyon Nature Center in the Anaheim Hills. Planned activities include: sampling an array of dried apple snacks and natural honeys, baking corn cakes made from fresh corn, making beeswax candles and taking a native plant walk. Cost is $6.50. Preregistration is recommended. The Nature Center is at 6700 E. Walnut Canyon Road, off Nohl Ranch Road adjacent to the Anaheim Hills Golf Course. Information: (714) 998-8380.
