Loser Drops Suit Challenging Vote

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Republican Woody Jenkins withdrew his lawsuit challenging the results of his U.S. Senate loss, saying he did not have enough time to collect evidence of voter fraud against Democratic winner Mary Landrieu. His withdrawal means Landrieu’s 5,788-vote margin, the closest of any Senate race on election day, will stand. It was Louisiana’s narrowest U.S. Senate victory in history and makes Landrieu the first woman in state history elected to the upper house. Her election puts the GOP Senate majority at 55-45. But Jenkins, repeating fraud allegations, said his fight is not over. He will ask the Senate to overturn his loss.
