Sexual Harassment Trial of Conroy, Ex-Aide Delayed

The sexual harassment trial of Assemblyman Mickey Conroy (R-Orange) and his former top aide was postponed Monday until next April because of a shortage of courtroom space in the glutted Sacramento County judicial system.

It marks the second long delay of the civil case brought against Conroy and former chief of staff Pete Conaty by Robyn Boyd, a former administrative assistant in the assemblyman’s Sacramento office.

The trial was originally slated for last May but was delayed because of a backlog of cases in Sacramento County Superior Court. Now it has been put off until April 7.

“I’m disappointed, frustrated, exasperated, outraged--it’s hard to find the right word to express how I feel,” said Conroy, who has insisted he didn’t harass Boyd.

Boyd said she, too, was “extremely disappointed. “I just want to go before a jury and then move on.”

Conroy blames the lawsuit for his defeat earlier this month by Todd Spitzer, a deputy district attorney, in the battle for an Orange County supervisorial seat. Conroy is accused in Boyd’s lawsuit of ordering her to give him hugs, kisses and back rubs.
