Phone Number for Housing Kept Busy

A toll-free phone number recently set up for those applying for low-income housing for seniors and disabled people has been inundated with telephone calls, Los Angeles Housing Authority officials said.

The phone number--(888) 500-3700--contains a new toll-free prefix.

Some applicants have complained that the number is not working. Officials say the number is accurate, but getting through has been difficult because of an overwhelming response to news of the availability of housing slots.

Housing officials said prospective applicants should continue trying the number.
