So much symbolism for such an early game. Interim Coach Steve Lavin, who says he anticipates a stumble here and there as he learns on the job, kicks off his season-long tryout against a Tulsa team with some of the same players who routed UCLA in the first round of the 1994 NCAA tournament. Golden Hurricane senior guard Shea Seals, who lit up the Dream Team last summer for 20 points in an exhibition, scored 20 three years ago as a freshman against the Bruins. “For the past couple years, for me, the word Tulsa meant disappointment and unfinished business,” said Charles O’Bannon, a freshman on that Bruin team. “We didn’t take care of business, we took them for granted. But now, we have a chance to redeem ourselves.” If UCLA wins, it will play host Friday to tonight’s St. Mary’s-Oklahoma State winner.
