Orange Coast Gets Around Golden West

Orange Coast’s Mikael Tornblom scored the winning goal in the final minute to give the Pirates a 5-4 victory over Golden West in Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer Tuesday in Costa Mesa.

Orange Coast (6-9-3, 4-6-1) blew a 3-0 lead, as Golden West (4-14-2, 3-8-1) scored four second-half goals in 25 minutes. Enrique Mayer then put Golden West up 4-3, with four minutes left to play. Marco Diaz tied the score at 4-4 a minute later for Orange Coast, before Tornblom sealed the victory for the Pirates.

Fullerton 3, Cypress 2--Fullerton’s Ben Whieldon scored all three goals for Fullerton (10-9-1, 6-5) over host Cypress (2-14-1, 1-9-1).

Irvine Valley 3, Riverside 0--Eric Pfeiffer scored three goals for Irvine Valley (13-7-3, 6-4-1).

In the Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Cypress 2, Irvine Valley 0--Colby Morgan and Felicia Madrigal each scored one goal in the first half for Cypress (15-0-1, 9-0-1).

Fullerton 4, Rancho Santiago 0--Becky Young scored two goals for host Fullerton, which secured third place in the conference. The Hornets’ Amber Duarte, the leading scorer in the conference, collected her 25th goal of the season.
