Watson Says He’s Going to UCLA

Earl Watson, a 6-foot-1 guard from Washington High in Kansas City, Mo., said he signed a letter of intent with UCLA at his home Wednesday night and then put it in the mail.

After failing to show up for a planned news conference at his school earlier in the day, Watson told the Kansas City Star newspaper that he decided to sign with the Bruins at home.

A UCLA athletic official said the school hadn’t received confirmation from Watson about his decision but was “hopeful” the letter of intent would be arriving soon.

Watson, who gave an oral commitment to the school in September, would be the only player to sign with UCLA during the weeklong early signing period, which ended Wednesday. After Jim Harrick’s firing Nov. 6, Watson said he was reconsidering his decision and might wait until the spring to sign.
