Robert Ponce, Disney Show Director, Dies

Longtime Disneyland employee Robert Ponce, who staged the theme park’s Lion King Celebration, died this week after a long illness. He was 36.

Ponce, whose last position was senior show director at the Disneyland Resort, died Tuesday at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach.

Ponce started at Disneyland in 1979 as a performer in the Main Street Electrical Parade, a show for which he later served as director. Other Disneyland projects and shows in which Ponce served as show director include the World According to Goofy parade, The Mighty Ducks Inaugural Show and Opening Ceremony, the Tournament of Roses Parade and Aladdin’s Royal Caravan.

He is survived by his mother, father and three sisters.
