Pier Reinforcement Proposal on Agenda

Share

Nearly a year after a winter storm destroyed 425 feet of the Ventura Pier, a $600,000 proposal to reinforce its remaining portion is scheduled to be considered Monday night by the Ventura City Council.

The proposal calls for steel pipes to be inserted between every other brace along a portion of the pier. The plan would provide 60% of the strengthening at 37% of the cost to reinforce the entire pier, according to the project’s consulting engineer Charles Rauw.

Cost of strengthening the entire pier is estimated at $1.6 million.

Rauw said the less expensive alternative would minimize the risk of collapse, such as that which occurred Dec. 13.
