A 46-year-old recycling center worker was shot in the back of the head in an argument Friday, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at 3:21 p.m. in the 7200 block of Mason Avenue at the Lucky supermarket where the recycling center is located, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Two men reportedly approached the victim and had a brief conversation with him before shooting him and removing personal property, police said.

The North Hollywood resident suffered a single shot to the back of the head and was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was in serious condition, authorities said.

“Surprisingly, he was conscious when we arrived,” Humphrey said.

The Fire Department landed a helicopter in the supermarket’s parking lot to carry the man to the hospital.

Police were still investigating the shooting late Friday, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.
