Friends Hold Silent Vigil for Slain Girl

A shrine of flowers, photographs and candles was placed at the site where a 17-year-old girl was shot to death, allegedly by the store owner.

About 20 friends of Brenda Hughes created the memorial during a silent vigil Friday night in front of Henry’s Market in Highland Park.

Store owner Jo Won Kim remained jailed Saturday after his arrest Thursday for investigation of murder and attempted murder. Police say he opened fire on a car full of teenagers after a boy apparently tried to steal beer from the struggling market. Hughes was shot in the head as she sat in the back seat.
