U.S. Sailor Gets 13 Years for Attack

A court sentenced a U.S. sailor to 13 years in prison for slashing a woman’s throat as he robbed her in a port near Nagasaki. Seaman 1st Class Terrence Michael Swanson attacked the woman with a knife in the southern port of Sasebo, where he was serving on the guided missile frigate McClusky. He robbed her of $115. Swanson, 20, of Anoka, Minn., was arrested four days after the July 16 attack and pleaded guilty in September to attempted murder and robbery.
