Apartment Firm Names Executive

* James E. Mead has been named chief financial officer of Newport Beach-based Irvine Apartment Communities. He succeeds Richard E. Moran Jr., who retired recently from the company, a real estate investment trust.

The company also named Tyler H. Rose, former Irvine Co. finance vice president, as treasurer. Mead had been treasurer since 1994. Both remain senior vice presidents.

In addition. William H. McFarland was elected to the board of Irvine Apartment Communities. McFarland, group president of land and residential development for The Irvine Co., succeeds Norman J. Metcalfe, former chief financial officer for The Irvine Co., who retired.

* T. Daniel Caruso has been appointed senior vice president of sales and marketing for Premier Laser Systems Inc., an Irvine manufacturer of medical and dental lasers, fiber optic delivery systems and associated products. He had been vice president of sales and marketing since joining the company four years ago. Before that, Caruso was vice president of sales and marketing at Hycor Biomedical in Irvine, and president and chief executive of Physicians Home Infusion Care, a home health care company in Newport Beach. In addition, Bradley C. Bockhorst has been selected director of the Dental Products Group. Prior to joining Premier Laser, Bockhorst was director of marketing and technical services for the dental division of Irvine-based Interpore International.

* Peter B. Ludlum has been named to the newly created position of chief financial officer and vice president of finance for Pacific Biometrics Inc., an Irvine developer of medical diagnostic tests for chronic diseases. Ludlum was previously a controller at Derlan Industries Inc.
