4 Robbers Flee After Shootout at Tavern
A Port Hueneme bar was held up Monday morning by four men who fled after a shootout with the bar owner.
No one was hurt in the attack.
Four suspects armed with shotguns entered the Launch Pad Bar in Port Hueneme about 12:40 a.m., robbed five patrons and unsuccessfully tried to open the cash register, police said.
During the holdup, bar owner Damaso Leanos came out from the back office and confronted one of the gunmen. The suspect opened fire, and the bar owner fired back with his own handgun, police said.
Sheriff’s deputies said they were surprised no one was hurt.
“It was a violent bar takeover,” Det. Dan Thompson said. “I’m amazed that no one was injured.”
