Share

Rose Espinoza’s after-school tutoring program--Motivating Adolescents to Succeed, better known as MAS--soon will begin offering music lessons to underprivileged youths in her Fifth Avenue neighborhood.

Espinoza today will receive a spinet piano, seven electric guitars, two acoustic guitars and 10 amplifiers from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) Foundation and other recording companies.

“This will enhance the kids’ lives,” said Espinoza, 45. “These kids can’t afford music lessons and now we will be providing music lessons free.”

Espinoza, who runs the nationally recognized tutoring program from her garage and at a nearby home, said she will be using a United Way grant to pay two music teachers to give the lessons after school at Las Lomas Elementary School, where the instruments will be housed.

In addition to the instruments, NARAS Foundation also will donate teachers kits, bilingual instructional materials and “Rosie’s Garage” T-shirts.
