Dykstra Can Reapply to Build Carwash
The Simi Valley City Council has agreed to let pro baseball player Lenny Dykstra reapply for permission to build a carwash and baseball memorabilia showroom on Los Angeles Avenue after a competing carwash owner won a court order against the project.
Noordin Yusufaly owns the First Street Carwash, a short distance away from where the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder is trying to build a car-detailing complex and baseball nostalgia shop.
After the council granted Dykstra a zoning variation for the project last year, Yusufaly sued the city.
On Nov. 21, Ventura County Superior Court Judge Barbara Lane granted Yusufaly’s request to overturn the zoning change, arguing that it violated city zoning requirements. She also ordered the city to pay Yusufaly’s legal fees. Lane then ordered the council to require Dykstra to apply instead for an amendment to the city’s General Plan, which would allow the carwash to be built.
The council voted 5 to 0 late Monday night to require a General Plan amendment for Lenny Dykstra’s Car Wash Inc. and charge Dykstra new planning fees totaling an estimated $17,274.
