Council Approves 226-Unit Condo Plan

Share

Despite objections from more than 60 residents, the city has given preliminary approval for a 226-unit condominium project at the southwest corner of Alta Vista Street and Rose Drive.

Residents told City Council members that the housing density proposed for the complex would be too high and would hurt their property values, cause traffic congestion on Alta Vista and cause overcrowding in local school classrooms.

Though the council approved the proposal on a 3-2 vote, the Planning Commission still has to issue a conditional use permit before the project can proceed. No date has been set yet for a meeting on the issue.

Steve Chavez, a spokesman for residents opposed to the development, said the group will not give up its fight and will explore its options.
