Secret Service Agent Faces Sex Charges

A 37-year-old U.S. Secret Service agent was being held on $500,000 bail Friday after being charged with committing various sex acts with a 16-year-old girl and giving her drugs.

Timothy John O’Brien, a six-year agent, was charged with one felony count each of unlawful sex with a minor, oral copulation with a minor, sodomy with a minor, unlawful penetration of a minor and furnishing methamphetamines to a minor.

O’Brien pleaded innocent Friday afternoon to the charges in Municipal Court. He has been placed on administrative suspension by the Secret Service.

O’Brien also faced faces felony charges of brandishing a loaded firearm and of battery on a peace officer causing injury, as well as a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

The girl’s father told law enforcement officers that when he confronted O’Brien, the agent pointed a gun at him, Deputy Dist. Atty. Richard A. Rosenthal said.

Rosenthal added that three days after that encounter, two Hermosa Beach police officers went to O’Brien’s home to make an arrest and had to struggle with him before taking him into custody.
