Sure, Now Carril Is Concerned About How Bruins Are Playing

Princeton 43, UCLA 41.

“It was an excellent way for me to finish my career,” Pete Carril said of his final victory in 29 seasons with the Tigers, before a loss to Mississippi State in the second round of last season’s NCAA tournament sent him into temporary retirement. “But I had so many of them. Of course, that one got the most publicity.”

So many highlights. He said he feels fortunate that he does not live in the past, even the recent past of Princeton’s memorable postseason run, saying a trip to Los Angeles as an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings to play the Clippers tonight at the Sports Arena doesn’t figure to stir memories.

Whether it does for Bruin faithful is another matter.

“They’re not playing so well, that team,” Carril said of the Bruins, dismissing any expectations of fan reaction to his presence. “They better get their act together, it looks like to me.”
