In addition to his pop album set for spring or early summer, Paul McCartney has a new symphonic piece in the works. Following up his 1991 “Liverpool Oratorio,” McCartney wrote the new work to commemorate the 100th anniversary of EMI, the company with which he’s spent most of his career. . . .

The Lemonheads, who have a history of doing interesting cover songs, have three such bonus tracks on a limited-edition single of their own song “It’s All True.” Included are versions of Metallica’s “Fade to Black,” Oasis’ “Live Forever” and REO Speedwagon’s “Keep on Loving You.” Evan Dando and his group have also recorded the Whitney Houston hit “How Will I Know” for an upcoming single bonus track. . . .

R.E.M.’s Peter Buck guests on an album-in-progress by Tuatara, a Seattle-area aggregate that includes Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees and Justin Harwood from Luna. Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin also sit in on some tracks. The band is scheduled to perform at the Sundance Film Festival next month in Utah, with the album due in March. . . .

L.A. ska-rockers Voodoo Glow Skulls, who released separate English and Spanish versions of their last album, “Firme,” are only doing one of their upcoming “El Baile de Los Locos,” due April 8 from Epitaph, with two Spanish-sung tracks included. . . . Also coming from Epitaph on March 25 is a new album from Pennywise. . . .

Australia’s INXS is in L.A. working on a video for the title track of “Elegantly Wasted,” a new album due April 14. . . . A younger Aussie, Ben Lee, is also in L.A., working with producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair) on a second solo album at the Beastie Boys’ studio and for the B-Boys’ Grand Royal label. Lee is set to graduate from high school in the spring. . . .

The Geraldine Fibbers have fired guitarist-songwriter Daniel Keenan, but the band is continuing work on its second album. . . . Bruce Hornsby is starting work on a new album in New Orleans with producer Dennis Herring (Cracker, Timbuk 3).
