Salvation Army Fund-Raising Lagging

Share

Making a plea for holiday generosity, the Oxnard/Port Hueneme Salvation Army says it has raised less than half of the funds it needs to serve the needy for the upcoming year.

Only $29,000 has been raised in three weeks of bell ringing outside stores, banks and post offices.

Despite a doubling of kettle sites with an expansion to Camarillo, contributions are significantly lower than last year’s total of $55,000.

With only 10 collection days to go, the Salvation Army hopes to see a swelling of its kettle coffers.

“If this trend does not correct itself, we will be forced to cut services and turn people away who have no place to go for help,” said Chairman Bob Butz, head of the Oxnard/Port Hueneme Salvation Army.

“We appeal to our neighbors and supporters to open your hearts now so that the poor and the homeless who come to our doors will not be turned away,” he said.
