Thoughts on Dornan Defeat

Share

Angry losers? You bet, and we have every right to be. What frustrates us is not that the 46th Congressional District voted, by a tiny margin, for a person we believe is not qualified (and who, until by absentee ballot this election, I say never voted in her life!) but for the following:

* Ms. [Loretta] Sanchez unethically distorted Congressman Dornan’s record in her campaign mailers. One mailer successfully shifted some of my father’s pro-life support from him to a minor candidate by portraying him as a hypocrite. It stated that my father would support a family member’s choice to have an abortion. An outrageous lie, or in his words, “I’d die first!”

* Another mailer pictured a 300-room palace in Vienna and “implied” that this is my parents’ home. “Implied” is how clever consultants avoid being sued for libel while still deceiving the voters. Voter fraud is currently being investigated by the district attorney’s office and the state of California’s voter fraud unit.

* My father won on election night but lost in the count of the “walk-in” absentee ballots. This walk-in ballot phenomenon has never happened before in California’s voting history. Serious questions have been raised. San Francisco’s radical, pro-Sandinista organization Neighbor to Neighbor was invited into the district in the final week to lead, according to Sanchez, “500 troops” whose job it was to mobilize voters. Weird.

The recount and protest process now underway was called for by the constituents of the 46th District (and the local media!).

This is not about my father’s remaining the congressman. In fact, we are trying to convince him not to run again for this seat should the election be ruled invalid. It is about principle.

We invite Ms. Sanchez to join with us in determining if this was a fair election and remove the cloud that now hangs over it.

* How many thousands of taxpayers’ dollars will be spent for Bob Dornan’s failure to accept the results of the election? (“State to Investigate Dornan Allegations of Voter Fraud,” Dec. 5.)

He cannot accept the fact that he lost and makes claims of voter fraud. Patricia Fanelli, Dornan’s district director, said he wasn’t doing it for himself and “the overwhelming majority of voters in all parties want our elections to be fair.”

Yes, we do want the elections to be fair. Was it in this “fairness” that the Republicans stationed menacing guards near polling places a few years ago?

Fortunately, I do not live in his district. However, I cringe at his antics and outrageous statements in California and Washington when he is identified as a representative from California.

Bob, if you had won the election with 700-plus votes, would you have claimed “voter fraud” or in your usual bombastic fashion claimed a “glorious victory?”

Accept your defeat, Bob. Do not make taxpayers spend more money, PLEASE.

* God bless “B-1” Bob Dornan. After all these years of service to himself and his politics, I guess it is time to bid a fond farewell.

I will miss his pointed insights on those immoral, despicable liberals and their evil leader, Bill Clinton. I will also miss listening to that soft lyrical voice elucidating a fresh, uplifting positive message for all of us (white, conservative, right-wing, God-fearing, no-nonsense Republican patriots).

His thoughtful discourses embodied an evenhanded consideration that few could argue with. He wasn’t one to waste his time or his focus on issues when personal attacks were necessary. He could never be accused of trying to negotiate a compromise with the Democrats when he could win by intimidation.

Was Bob extreme? What’s extreme? Bob was a true inspiration. He wrapped himself in God, the flag and the United States of America and was extreme only to those sick minds who disagreed with him. He was a shining example of what politics in America can be.

As a fearless leader, Dornan showed his party how to fight and win even the dirtiest of campaigns and still maintain an appearance of respect and dignity.

Over the years, that appearance was continually besmirched by those filthy liberals as they repeatedly tried to muddy the waters by discussing issues and ignoring Dornan’s incessant attacks on the character of his subhuman opponents.

I will miss his humorous but respectful characterizations of the Democrats and our president. He personified the loyal opposition by gracefully informing the American people about those lowlifes in the White House.

* Oh, somewhere in Orange County the sun is shining bright. The band is playing jubilantly and there the hearts are light. And folks are dancing in the streets, and children yell and shout. But there is no joy in Garden Grove: B-1 Bob has just bombed out.

* Ironically, Loretta Sanchez’s victory over Bob Dornan could also have been the effect of a few hundred moderate Republicans protesting with their ballots against Dornan booster Rush Limbaugh.

* Carjack?

How about the B-1 Dornan Jet-Jack--a $4,000 taxpayers joy ride.

Thank God the F-18 didn’t go down, we would have been stuck for a funeral.
