Findings Mixed on Holocaust Assets

A report prepared for the Swiss government rejected charges by world Jewish groups that the unclaimed funds of Holocaust victims were used to compensate Swiss companies and citizens for property confiscated during World War II. But the historians who prepared the report said they found numerous examples of serious legal and administrative irregularities by Swiss banks and high-ranking government figures in the postwar period, including cases in which the heirs of Holocaust victims trying to trace lost assets had been stonewalled by Swiss banks.
