Panel to Study Plans to Privatize Waterworks
Five proposals for outside companies to take over the city’s water operations will be discussed Monday night by the city’s ad hoc committee on water privatization.
The seven-member committee, made up of City Councilman Mark Leyes, Mayor Bruce Broadwater and city staff, will meet in the City Council conference room in City Hall, 11222 Acacia Parkway, at 6:30 p.m.
The committee will present a report on water company proposals for taking over the department and discuss how to proceed with the possible takeover.
Privatizing water operations was presented as an option after a $6-million deficit forced council members to postpone approval of this year’s budget. The budget is scheduled to be reviewed next month.
