Dashing Folly Wins at Los Alamitos

Dashing Folly got out of the gate quickly to win the Champion of Champions quarter horse race at Los Alamitos Race Course Sunday night.

Ridden by Tami Purcell, the filly won by more than a length. Blushing By, ridden by Henry Garcia, finished second and Ah Sigh, with John Creager aboard, was third.

Dashing Folly, in winning its 10th consecutive start, covered 440 yards in 21.70 seconds. “She makes my heart stop,” said trainer Donna McArthur. “It’s so awesome to see her do it over and over again. She loves the track here.”

Defending world champion Winalota Cash was a disappointing sixth.

The running of the Champion of Champions on Sunday closed out the 1996 meeting. Totally Done Gone, a 1-5 favorite with jockey Eddie Garcia aboard, won the $35,000 Breeders Classics Futurity by 1 3/4 lengths. A Banner Day, with Roman Figueroa aboard, won the $32,130 Breeders Distaff Classic and Fearless Freda, ridden by Bruce Pilkenton, captured the $76,500 Breeders Championship Classic.
