A car bomb exploded in a crowded Algiers suburb, killing at least 10 people and wounding 86 in the capital’s second deadly blast this week, Algerian security forces said. Hospital sources put the death toll at 20. The bombing was among the bloodiest in recent weeks as Muslim militants stepped up attacks aimed at derailing President Liamine Zeroual’s efforts to consolidate power and crush a nearly 5-year-old insurgency. The bomb went off near a cultural center and a police station, destroying five cars and a bus. Most of the victims were pedestrians and motorists. The attack came just three days after the last car bombing in the capital, which killed three people and wounded 70.
