A Violent History

Covington was convicted of assaulting a Huntington Park neighbor last year, stabbing him in his left wrist and lower stomach after a confrontation over missing money. Covington, who told authorities he worked part-time as a custodian for the Los Angeles Unified School District, was ordered to spend a year in jail. Instead, the Sheriff’s Department placed him on work release and he soon vanished.

The 52-year-old defendant had nine previous arrests for offenses that included drug use, drunk driving and assaults with deadly weapons. “Unfortunately, this offense tends to suggest that the defendant is of the misplaced notion that it is acceptable to use force and violence when he feels [wronged],” his probation report said.

He is still missing.
