Zoo Will Train Volunteer Docents

Animal lovers are needed at the Santa Ana Zoo.

Volunteer docents will be trained, in sessions starting Jan. 28, about zoology and the handling of exotic animals so they can help with the zoo’s education programs.

“Being a volunteer is perfect for people who love animals and want to share the wonders of the animal world with children,” said Kent Yamaguchi, curator of education at the zoo.

The zoo’s education department oversees the docents as they provide school tours, staff the traveling Zoomobile, conduct weekend classes and staff the Critter’s Corner, the center where the public gets to pet the animals.

The zoo is particularly in need of bilingual volunteers.
