David J. Butler, an editor with experience at newspapers in Connecticut, Denver and south Florida, has been appointed editor of the Los Angeles Daily News, said Larry T. Beasley, the newspaper’s publisher and president. Butler, 46, comes from the 100,000-circulation New Haven Register, where he was editor. He also oversaw operations of 21 regional newspapers and was a corporate consultant on editorial matters to the Register’s parent company. In the 1980s, the Illinois native was a suburban editor at the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, and before that he worked for newspapers in Florida, Kentucky and Illinois, Beasley said. Butler replaces Robert W. Lund, who was named the newspaper’s manager of editorial operations and finance.
