Smits Hurting but Plans to Play On

Indiana center Rik Smits did not practice Thursday, but expects to play during the Pacers’ four-game road trip beginning tonight in Denver.

Smits, who underwent surgery on both feet in September, experienced soreness after playing his first game of the season Tuesday. With treatment and padded shoes, however, Smits should continue playing.

The Philadelphia 76ers put power forward Derrick Coleman on the injured list because of a lacerated left pinky, suffered in Wednesday’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks. . . . The Dallas Mavericks activated forward Fred Roberts from the injured list and put rookie forward Samaki Walker on the injured list because of a sprained left ankle.
