Pepsi May Get Sales, Advertising Rights

Share

The City Council today will consider giving Pepsi-Cola Co. exclusive rights to advertise and sell its products at Anaheim Convention Center in exchange for an estimated $635,000 over 10 years.

The proposal gives the giant beverage company rights to display advertising materials on three signs within the Convention Center.

Under the agreement, Pepsi will be the only advertiser of soft-drink beverages on advertising space within the Convention Center.

Pepsi soft drinks and other company products would be sold exclusively.

In other matters, the council will consider a technical amendment to a lease agreement in connection with the proposed financing of the Anaheim Resort improvements and Disneyland and Convention Center expansion projects.

City Atty. Jack White said the proposed changes do not affect the sale of $518 million in bonds to finance public improvements for the Disney and Convention Center expansions and other work planned to enhance the resort area.

“It’s a technical amendment to the lease agreement,” White said. “It doesn’t change provisions of the deal. It only protects the new bondholder.

“If we default under existing bonds, they’ll still be entitled to get their bond payments that come in the form of lease payments.”

At today’s meeting, the council will also accept a federal library grant worth more than $33,600 to buy reference materials. The Major Urban Resource Library grant is funded by federal money and made available through the California State Library.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in council chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd.
