Suspect Held in Rape of Acquaintance
A 41-year-old Ventura man is awaiting arraignment on charges that he raped a 47-year-old acquaintance, authorities said Friday.
Arthur M. Perez was arrested Thursday night after police officers were able to get him to return to the woman’s home, a Ventura Police Department spokesman said.
Perez allegedly had raped the woman earlier that day after breaking into her east Ventura home. He left after the attack, then called her just as police arrived at the home, the spokesman said.
While on the phone, the woman, with coaching from police, convinced the man to return to her home, where he was arrested.
Perez was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of rape and burglary, a jail spokeswoman said. His bail is set at $100,000.
