In the first show, parents are shown how to make unique and whimsical gift wrap by painting vegetables and rolling toys, then printing onto various types of paper. In Tom and Huck (Disney Channel, Sunday at 7 p.m.), the 1995 version of Mark Twain’s first story of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, the focus is on the boys’ friendship and the fragility of that relationship when they witness a murder by Injun Joe. The town drunk, Muff Potter (Michael McShane), is accused of the crime and the boys are faced with saving him and risking the wrath of the real killer or maintaining the oath of silence they made to each other. The Disney Channel’s Black History Month schedule includes a repeat of Nightjohn (Monday at 7 p.m.). The film tells the story of a slave called Nightjohn in the pre-Civil War South who believes “words are freedom” and defies the laws that forbid the teaching of reading and writing to slaves.
