Ashley Gruwell, a fifth-grader at Cerritos Elementary School in Anaheim, and Tony Gonzalez, a sixth-grader at Glen H. Dysinger Sr. Elementary School in Buena Park, were selected as winners of the 1996 Why Say No to Drugs contest.
More than 700 entries from 10 Orange County school districts were sent in for the annual contest, which is co-sponsored by the Orange County Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Orange County Pharmacists’ Assn. The contest was open to fifth- and sixth-graders.
In addition to a trophy, Gruwell and Gonzalez will each receive a $500 savings bond, two tickets to Disneyland and a pass to Universal Studios or Magic Mountain.
