Select Software Tools: The Irvine software supplier said it lost $1.7 million, or 20 cents a share, for 1996, which included a charge of $2.1 million for acquired research and development. Select Software lost $3 million, or 35 cents a share, the previous year. Revenue rose to $14.3 million from $5.7 million. For the fourth quarter, the company posted a net loss of $1.7 million, or 17 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $767,000, or 9 cents a share, for the comparable period in 1995. Revenue reached a record $4.8 million, up from the $1.8 million.
