A 10-year-old girl who was believed to have been abducted while walking to school in South-Central Los Angeles has been found safe at her mother’s home in Liberty, Tex., detectives said Monday.

“As of right now, she is with the mom,” said Det. Kelie Sturgis. “She is safe and in perfect health. We are trying to conduct an investigation because the stories are very inconsistent of everything we had to go on.”

Erica Avance disappeared after her father walked her halfway to school on Jan. 29, officials said. When Eddie Avance went to pick her up at the Raymond Avenue School, he was told she had not been to school all day. Witnesses told police they saw a black woman in her late 20s walking with Erica on Vermont Avenue that afternoon.
